Human hair extensions are an investment — and with the right care, they last much longer. In this article, we share practical tips for washing, drying, styling, and storing your extensions so they always look their best.
How Often Should You Wash Extensions?
Don’t wash your extensions too frequently. Unlike your natural hair, extensions don’t produce natural oils, which means they dry out faster with excessive washing. As a general rule:
- Clip-in extensions — wash after every 15 to 20 wears, or when there’s a lot of product build-up
- Ponytail extensions — wash after every 10 to 15 wears
- U-Part Wig — wash every 1 to 2 weeks, depending on how often you wear it
How to Wash Human Hair Extensions
- Detangle first — always start from the ends and work your way up, never the other way around
- Use lukewarm water — hot water damages the hair fibers
- Use a mild, sulfate-free shampoo — wash gently in the direction of the hair, don’t scrub
- Apply conditioner to the ends — avoid the roots (clips or band) to prevent loosening
- Rinse thoroughly — leftover conditioner makes the hair heavy and dull
How to Dry Extensions
- Pat dry with a soft towel — never rub, as this causes tangles and breakage
- Air dry whenever possible — lay them flat on a dry towel or hang them up
- Using a blow dryer? Always use a heat protectant spray and the lowest heat setting. Our extensions are made from 100% human hair and are heat-resistant, but excessive heat shortens their lifespan
How to Style Human Hair Extensions
Because our extensions are made from 100% human hair, you can straighten, curl, and blow-dry them just like your natural hair. Keep the following in mind:
- Always use a heat protectant spray before applying heat
- Keep the temperature at no more than 180°C (356°F) for everyday use — slightly higher for special occasions, but keep it to a minimum
- Let the extensions cool completely before storing them
- Avoid heavy oils or serums near the roots — these can affect the clips or PU band
How to Store Extensions
Proper storage significantly extends the lifespan of your extensions:
- Store in a satin pouch or box — this prevents friction and tangling
- Don’t compress them — give them space so the hair fibers don’t deform
- Keep them out of direct sunlight — UV exposure can cause color fading
- Always remove clip-in extensions before sleeping — this prevents tangling and damage
Extra Tips Per Product Type
- Octopus Clip-In Extension — regularly check that the integrated strands are secure and detangle gently from ends to roots
- Ponytail Extensions — loosely roll them up and store in a pouch to maintain their shape
- U-Part Wig — store on a wig stand or folded in a satin bag to preserve its structure
